Online Model Learning of Buildings Using Stochastic Hybrid Systems Based on Gaussian Processes

چکیده
Dynamical models are essential for model-based control methodologies which allow smart buildings to operate autonomously in an energy and cost efficient manner. However, buildings have complex thermal dynamics which are affected externally by the environment and internally by thermal loads such as equipment and occupancy. Moreover, the physical parameters of buildingsmay change over time as the buildings age or due to changes in the buildings’ configuration or structure. In this paper, we introduce an onlinemodel learningmethodology to identify a nonparametric dynamicalmodel for buildings when the thermal load is latent (i.e., the thermal load cannot bemeasured). The proposedmodel is based on stochastic hybrid systems, where the discrete state describes the level of the thermal load and the continuous dynamics represented by Gaussian processes describe the thermal dynamics of the air temperature. We demonstrate the evaluation of the proposed model using two-zone and five-zone buildings. The data for both experiments are generated using the EnergyPlus software. Experimental results show that the proposed model estimates the thermal load level correctly and predicts the thermal behavior with good performance.

Variational Gaussian Process State-Space Models
State-space models have been successfully used for more than fifty years in different areas of science and engineering. We present a procedure for efficient variational Bayesian learning of nonlinear state-space models based on sparse Gaussian processes. The result of learning is a tractable posterior over nonlinear dynamical systems. In comparison to conventional parametric models, we offer th...
متن کاملHybrid Recommender System Based on Variance Item Rating
K-nearest neighbors (KNN) based recommender systems (KRS) are among the most successful recent available recommender systems. These methods involve in predicting the rating of an item based on the mean of ratings given to similar items, with the similarity defined by considering the mean rating given to each item as its feature. This paper presents a KRS developed by combining the following app...
متن کاملGaussian Process Latent Force Models for Learning and Stochastic Control of Physical Systems
This paper is concerned with estimation and stochastic control in physical systems which contain unknown input signals or forces. These unknown signals are modeled as Gaussian processes (GP) in the sense that GP models are used in machine learning. The resulting latent force models (LFMs) can be seen as hybrid models that contain a first-principles physical model part and a non-parametric GP mo...
متن کاملLearning and Control using Gaussian Processes
Building physics-based models of complex physical systems like buildings and chemical plants is extremely cost and time prohibitive for applications such as real-time optimal control, production planning and supply chain logistics. Machine learning algorithms can reduce this cost and time complexity, and are, consequently, more scalable for large-scale physical systems. However, there are many ...
متن کاملA multi-stage stochastic programming for condition-based maintenance with proportional hazards model
Condition-Based Maintenance (CBM) optimization using Proportional Hazards Model (PHM) is a kind of maintenance optimization problem in which inspections of a system relevant to its failure rate depending on the age and value of covariates are performed in time intervals. The general approach for constructing a CBM based on PHM for a system is to minimize a long run average cost per unit of time...
